چکیده

The computation of optical modes inside axisymmetric cavity resonators with a general spatial permittivity profile is a formidable computational task. In order to avoid spurious modes the vector Helmholtz equations are discretised by a mixed finite element approach. We formulate the method for first and second order Nédélec edge and Lagrange nodal elements. We discuss how to accurately compute the element matrices and solve the resulting large sparse complex symmetric eigenvalue problems. We validate our approach by three numerical examples that contain varying material parameters and absorbing boundary conditions (ABC). © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Ex-house 2D finite-element simulation of the whispering-gallery modes of axisymmetric electromagnetic resonators

It is described, explicitly, how a popular, commercially-available software package for solving partialdifferential-equations (PDEs), as based on the finite-element method (FEM), can be configured to calculate the frequencies and fields of the whispering-gallery (WG) modes of axisymmetric dielectric resonators. The approach is traceable; it exploits the PDE-solver’s ability to accept the defini...

Coherent optical non-reciprocity in axisymmetric resonators.

We describe an approach to optical non-reciprocity that exploits the local helicity of evanescent electric fields in axisymmetric resonators. By interfacing an optical cavity to helicity-sensitive transitions, such as Zeeman levels in a quantum dot, light transmission through a waveguide becomes direction-dependent when the state degeneracy is lifted. Using a linearized quantum master equation,...

Add-Drop and Channel-Drop Optical Filters Based on Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators

Here, we propose an add-drop and a channel drop filter based on two-dimensional photonic crystal all circular ring resonators. These structures are made of a square lattice of silicon rods with the refractive index n1=3.464 surrounded by air (with refractive index n2=1). The broadest photonic band gap occurs at the filling ratio of r/a = 0.17. Two linear defect W1 waveguides couple to the ring....

A New Design of Photonic Crystal Filter and Power Splitter Based on Ring Resonators

First, we have designed the filter and by using that, we designed a power splitter. Thetransmission efficiency and Qua...
